"D" License Course  Overview

U.S. Soccer "D" License Candidate Manual - in English (.pdf)

The "D" License course prepares coaches to further develop their player’s technical abilities and their application within the game, increases their understanding of the Principles of Play and how they are applied in the game, and expands the coaches understanding of 11 a-side soccer and the importance of developing a team system that is based on the player’s abilities. Technical sessions used coaching progression methodology and the manipulation of pressure to facilitate player development. Technical topics covered are: dribbling, passing, receiving, heading, crossing, finishing, and goal keeping.
Tactical topics include possession, along with offensive and defensive sessions. Understanding Principles of Play and relating to systems are discussed in a classroom setting as well as in field sessions.
Practice practical coaching sessions on technical and tactical topics are developed individually. An assessment of the session is provided to each candidate individually by the instructor. Final practice coaching sessions are assigned to each candidate. These are assessed by the instructor to determine if coaching methodologies have been displayed satisfactorily by each candidate.
Practical coaching assessment along with results from written tests on tactics and methods are used to determine if the candidate has achieved a satisfactory coaching level to earn a National D coaching license.
Course is 36 hour long typically done over two (2) weekends.
Those attending this course are advised to be physically fit and prepared as the course is mentally and physically challenging.
Interested candidates are required to bring soccer shoes, tennis shoes, balls, water, pencil/pen, paper, sun screen, shorts, shirts, and strong desire to learn. Participation is mandatory from all candidates in the field sessions.
