| The 2008 Championships are almost over and teams within AYSA are in an unprecedented position in Region IV. AYSA has been given and has accepted 6 wildcard spots for the Far West Regional Championships. We just received the wildcard invitation for both the U19B and U19G this past Friday. There will be 22 teams representing Arizona. Now the difficulty comes in trying to find flights to Hawaii. We know that several teams may have booked flights anticipating success within their age groups but have not been as successful as they thought. If you have tickets, before you turned them in, please contact the AYSA Office. Many of our teams are having great difficulty getting flights into Honolulu. |

Tournament Committee  Thursday, May 1, 2008 |
| By this time we are sure that you have heard about the tragic death of Ruben Hernandez, a player with the Santos '93 boys soccer team, last Saturday as he was returning home from the soccer field with his mother and brother. In honor of him, we are asking that a moment of silence be observed prior to the start of each game of State Cup. We ask that after the referees bring the teams onto the field and they have an opportunity to be welcomed by their fans, that both teams come together at the center circle and observe a moment in silence. Hopefully, as the teams continue the competition, we all realize that we are just playing a game. |

| There was a typo in the U17B brackets that was posted earlier. Game #15 and #16 should be 5/3/08. |
State Cup Committee  Monday, April 28, 2008 |
| As you check to see the scores of the weekend's State Cup games, please keep the family of Ruben Hernandez in your thoughts and prayers. Ruben played with the Santos '93 and was on his way home on Saturday morning after their game with his little brother, Saul, who plays for FBSL Necaxa '96, and their mother, who was driving. The car in which they were riding was struck by another car and Ruben was killed instantly. His mother was in surgery for much of the remainder of the day and Saul will be in surgery on Sunday morning. Again, remember that while it is important who wins and loses, there are events that should put every win and every loss in perspective. Thank you. State Cup Committee This family could use your help and support ...CLICK HERE for details. |

| The revised age group brackets will be posted to the website soon. Everyone should check to make sure of their schedule for the weekend. Start times for the Champinship games in the U11 - U13 age groups have changed somewhat to accomodated awards presentations as needed. All games in the Phoenix area will be played at Reach 11. Some games times and fields have been changed to accomodate all the games needing to be played. In Tucson, games will be played at Silverlake Park on Saturday and Rillito Park on Sunday. Check the "venue" section for maps to these parks. Good Luck to all teams playing their Championship games this weekend. |
Don Hillegass  Tuesday, April 22, 2008 |
| Everyone, Please stop the emails regarding SAT's and proms. The Tournament Committee is very aware of these events and will take them into consideration. You must also realize that we have a State Cup Tournament that needs to be played. We also do not have the Reach 11 fields on May 3. We will do the best we can with the resources we have available. |
Don Hillegass  Monday, April 21, 2008 |
| Just want to remind everyone that State Cup Tournament t-shirts will be available at Reach 11 this coming weekend. T-shirts are available in 7 colors. Cost is $10 each. |
Don Hillegass  Tuesday, April 15, 2008 |
| Revised schedules will be posted shortly. All teams should check their schedule. If you are playing in Tucson at Silverlake Park, be sure to check to map, in the venue section, and allow sufficient time to get to the site. It would be hlepful for the Site Directors if coaches and team managers would reread the rules about team checkin. Game Rosters can be downloaded on this site and should be completed prior to coming to Tournament Headquarters for checkin. |
Don Hillegass  Monday, April 14, 2008 |
| To all team managers & coaches, Please do not rely on the schedules as listed in the age group brackets that are currently on the website. Several games are being moved to consolidate resources and games in Tucson will be moved to a new location. It is hoped that the revised schedules will be posted by 4 PM on Tuesday, 4/15/08. Please check the website tomorrow night to verify time and location of your game this weekend. Please be aware that, becasue several individuals have failed to pickup after their dogs, the venues we are using are asking that you leave your pets at home. |
AYSA  Saturday, April 12, 2008 |
| NO DOGS ALLOWED at the Reach 11 tournament venue. |

| Team Credential check will begin next week for the U15 - U18 age groups. Remember, you will need birth documents, NOTARIZED medical release forms, player passes, foreign translation forms and waivers if applicable.
If you are a Tucson area team, please check the PCJSL website for check-in details. If you are a Flagstaff team, please contact the office for details on Federal Expressing your credentials. If you are a Phoenix area team, we will be at the following locations, you may attend any check-in, keep in mind the start of each check-in is usually the busiest so you may have to wait a few minutes if others are ahead of you: Monday, April 14th, 11am-4:30pm at the Pros Soccer office, 5235 S Kyrene, Ste 207. Tempe, AZ 85283 Tuesday, April 15th, 11am-4:00pm at the Sereno Soccer Office, 10801 N 32nd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85028 Wednesday, April 16th, 2pm-6pm at the Del Sol Soccer office, 12228 N Cave Creek, Ste 110, Phoenix, AZ 85022 Thursday, April 17th, 12noon-4pm at the AYSA office, 11029 N 24th Ave, Ste 805-806, Phoenix, AZ 85029 Rules: We have instituted a new sideline policy this year, due to feedback from many coaches who feel as though it is easier to control their sidelines when they are behind the team rather than across the field. With that in mind, check the diagram of the protocol for sideline seating on the website in the "Rules" section. We are asking all team managers and coaching staff to help us enforce this policy, so please make sure your parents are aware.
Game cards: This year we are using new game cards. You can locate them on the state cup page under "Credentials". The game card is now a half sheet. Please download the form from the website, fill it out, print, cut in half and you have your game sheet for two games. This makes it easier for everyone, you no longer have to wait to do this at the field, you can come prepared.
Sideline passes: This year for sideline passes we will again be issuing a DOC pass for each club. Each club may have one DOC pass per gender...........but the DOC will only be allowed to sit on the sidelines of the gender listed on his pass. The DOC pass will count as one of the four allowed on your sideline, but the DOC does not need to have an actual coach pass for your team. Please contact your club if you have questions about a DOC pass. When you come to check in your team we will have a sideline pass for each coach/admin registered on your team at the time the rosters freeze. If you have more than 4 currently listed on your team, at check in you will need to select the four you want during state cup. So, please check with your club registrar if you are unsure of who is listed on your team. This same information has been sent to club registrars. Misc: Remember, if you are bringing pop-ups to the field, stakes are not allowed at any of our venues. Anything you can do to help us control sideline trash would really be appreciated. I'm sure all of you have been involved with running a tournament and you probably all agree the worst job at the end of the day is cleaning up the fields! These players are the best of the best, let's teach them be good citizens as well by cleaning up after ourselves. Please remind your spectators too! Have your team game ready at check in. Arrive wearing the jersey you plan to play the game in. Make sure your players have removed clips, bobbie pins from their hair and they have removed all jewelry. Good luck in the competition!

| TRAFFIC ALERTS! It appears that there might be some "challenges" throughout the valley this weekend based on the notices in the Arizona Republic this morning. I-10 at Chandler Boulevard. Eastbound I-10 narrowed to one lane between Chandler Blvd and Wild Horse Pass Blvd for ruberized asphalt paving. AYSA has also received a "Vehicle Burglary" alert from the Scottsdale Sports Complex and the Scottsdale Police Department. Last weekend, there were 3 vichicle broken into at the Complex and purses stolen. Scottsdale Police is asking that everyone be very careful with items left in plain sight in your vehicle. Valuable should be locked in your trunk if you can not take them with you.

This will provide a challenge for the State/Open Cup teams traveling from the west side of town. Teams should plan additional travel time to the Scottsdale Sports Complex. Teams coming from the west side should plan to exit early and take Bell Road east (turns into Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd at Scottsdale Road) to N. Hayden Road and turn left. Follow Hayden to Princess Dr. Another possible route, as traffic will be heavy, would be exit at Tatum and go south to Greenway Road/Parkway. Go east on Greenway to Scottsdale Road. | Teams are reminded that there is a new game card for the 2008 State Cup competition. It can be downloded from the website. Some managers, during the Open Cup, had difficulty opening the card in the correct format. If you experience this problem, try moving the columns on the xcel spreadsheet and you should be able to get two cards on one page. Please complete all possible information prior to coming to Tournament Headquarters for checkin. You will need this card for each game. Teams are reminded that an adult, with sideline credentials for that team, must be with the team at checkin. |

The game card is on the website and can be downloaded. The information on the form can be completed prior to the start of the tournament. The game card sheet should be cut in half and the person that comes to Tournament Headquarters with the team will being this form with them and present it to the field marshal for check in. Second, is where the teams and spectators will sit during the game. During the preliminary rounds, the spectators will sit on the same side of the field as the team. Spectators will sit to the left of the team. Under no circumstance shall the spectators sit behind the assistant referee. Spectators are not allowed to sit behind the goal. DIAGRAM |
